1. What we do not do
Let us start there, it is what worries people most.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do you sell my data? | No. Never, to anyone. |
| Do you use my roméro book? | No. Your book is yours. |
| Is there targeted advertising? | No. No advertising tracker. |
| Do you track where I go? | No. Only the address of your place is recorded, once. |
| Can my competitors see my figures? | No. Your sales and your margins are visible only to you and the people you give access to. |
2. Two worlds: what is public, what is not
This is the most important distinction on this page. Yadiyar is a social network: part of what you put on it is public by nature, because that is what makes you known. The rest never is.
| Public — made to travel | Private — for you alone |
|---|---|
|
The name of your business Your city and your activity Your photos and your 360° tour Your items and their prices* Your posts and videos The public comments |
Your sales and your margins Your credit and your roméro book Your expenses and suppliers Your staff and their access Your private messages Your invoices and management documents |
* except the ones you choose to hide, prices included.
Public content can be seen by anyone, shared, appear in a search engine and in link previews. That is what lets a roméro who does not know you find you.
If you do not want that, you can make your shop reachable only with a code that you hand out yourself.
3. What we collect
What you give us
- To identify you: phone number, first name, last name.
- Your account: password (we never see it in clear text).
- Your business: name, city, country, type of activity, opening hours, photos.
- Your activity: items, sales, credit, expenses, staff — what you enter into the tools.
What is recorded automatically
- The logins to your account, so we can warn you if access looks suspicious.
- The visits to your shop, in aggregate, to show you your audience.
- Some technical information: device type, country, so that the display adapts.
When you register your business, your position may be recorded with your consent, once only, to check that the shop really is at the address given.
This is about the place, never your movements, and it is not tracked continuously.
4. Why we collect it
If you run a business (vitrona), we collect what is needed to make your management tools work. If you visit shops (roméro), we collect far less — and you can even visit without an account.
Both lists are below. Read the one that applies to you.
If you run a business (vitrona)
| Data | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Phone number | Logging you in, recovering your account, reaching you. It is our main channel. |
| Business name, city | Letting roméros find you. |
| Your sales and your invoices | Making your management tools work. They are your documents, not our accounts — you correct them and cancel them as you like. |
| Visits to your shop | Showing you how many people come in and look at your items. |
| Login log | Spotting an unusual login and protecting your account. |
We collect what serves the service. We do not build an advertising profile and we resell nothing.
Our tools help you follow your business day to day: what is sold, what is still to be collected, what is in stock. This is not official accounting, and we do not keep it for you.
You stay in charge of your documents: you can cancel an invoice, correct a line, remove what you want. We do not stop you and we do not put it back.
In exchange, it is up to you to keep what the law asks you to keep. If your accountant or the tax office asks for a document, do not count on Yadiyar to find it: download your invoices as PDF and keep them elsewhere.
The network's overall statistics
Like any network, Yadiyar measures its overall activity: number of businesses, of visits, of active cities, types of activity represented, browsing trends.
They are about the network as a whole, never about you in particular, and they do not allow any member or any business to be identified.
We use them to improve the service, decide where to expand, and talk about the activity of the platform.
We never publish a statistic fine enough for anyone to work out the turnover or the activity of an identifiable business. Your figures stay yours.
If you are a roméro (you visit, you buy)
You do not run a business, so we collect far less. You can visit shops with no account at all.
| Data | What it is for | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number | Logging you in and recovering your account. | yes |
| First name and last name | So the shopkeeper knows who they are talking to when you order. | yes |
| City and country | Showing you the businesses near you. | no |
| Photo, bio, date of birth, gender | Your profile, if you want to fill it in. We do not ask you for them when you join and the service works without them. | no |
| Shops followed, favourites | Finding again what interests you. | — |
| Your orders | So the shopkeeper prepares and hands over what you asked for. | — |
When you place an order, they see your first name, your last name and your phone number. They need them to reach you and hand over your item. That is the price of an order, and we prefer to tell you beforehand.
On the other hand: they do not see the other shops you visit, nor what you buy elsewhere, nor your date of birth if you have filled it in.
Visiting a shop is not ordering, but it is not always invisible:
- without an account, or without being logged in: you are anonymous. The shopkeeper sees only that someone came by, in a counter;
- logged in to your account: when you visit their shop or like an item, the shopkeeper sees your first name, your last name, your photo and the start of your number (for example "+226 7531…"). Never the whole number until you have ordered.
If you want to look without being seen, visit without logging in.
We do not sell your number. We do not pass it to a shopkeeper from whom you have ordered nothing. We resell no visitor list.
5. What roméros see of you
This is a question we are often asked, so here is the exact answer.
| Item | Publicly visible? |
|---|---|
| Business name, city, photos | Yes |
| Your items and their prices | Yes, except the ones you hide |
| Your business contact number | Yes, that is how people reach you |
| Your sales, margins, expenses | No |
| Your credit and your roméro book | No |
| Your staff and their access | No |
Your shop can be set to be reachable only with a code that you hand out yourself. In that case, it appears nowhere publicly.
When a roméro places an order with you, you see their phone number — it is needed to deliver to them and to call them. In the same way, a roméro who orders knows they are leaving you their number.
When a logged-in roméro visits your shop or likes an item, you see their first name, their last name, their photo and the start of their number only. A visitor without an account stays anonymous: they appear only in a counter.
6. How you are promoted
A social network puts its members in touch. To do that, Yadiyar can suggest your shop to visitors likely to be interested.
These suggestions rest on simple things:
- your city and your type of activity;
- what the visitor has looked at recently on the network;
- the public activity of your shop — new arrivals, items available.
Your sales figures, your margins, your credit, your expenses. The promotion rests only on what you have made public.
Public discovery is not open yet. We describe it here so that you know how it will work, before it is switched on — and not on the day you find out about it.
7. Who else sees your data
- The Yadiyar team: only what is needed to help you. Access to sensitive data is logged.
- Our technical providers: hosting, message sending. They are bound by contract and have no right to use your data for anything else.
- The authorities, only on a lawful request.
Hosting outside Africa
Some technical processing goes through servers located off the continent, notably in Europe. These transfers are covered by contract. We avoid the countries that do not offer sufficient safeguards.
8. Cookies
We use only cookies necessary for the service to work. No advertising cookie, no third-party tracking pixel.
They are used to:
- keep your browsing session;
- authenticate you if you are logged in;
- count visits anonymously;
- remember your language and your preferences.
9. How long we keep it
| Data | Duration |
|---|---|
| Your account and its content | As long as the account exists |
| After an erasure request | 30 days, then erasure — time enough to undo it if it was a mistake |
| Payments you have made to us (top-ups, subscriptions) | The period required by law (often 10 years) — these are our records |
| Detailed browsing records | 6 months, then automatic deletion |
| Aggregated statistics | Kept, but they no longer allow you to be identified |
Even if you leave, we keep a record of the payments you have made to us: they are our own records, and the law requires us to keep them.
The invoices you issue for your roméros are your documents, not ours. Yadiyar is not accounting software: download them as PDF before closing your account.
10. Your rights, and how to use them
At any time you can:
- See the data we hold about you;
- Correct what is inaccurate;
- Ask for the erasure of your account and your data, within the limits of what the law requires us to keep;
- Get a copy of your data;
- Refuse to receive our non-essential messages;
- Withdraw a consent you had given, without retroactive effect.
How to do it, in practice
Changing your personal information, your business details, your password and your visibility settings: directly from your account.
Full deletion of the account and getting a copy of your data are not automated yet. Write to us and we handle the request by hand.
We prefer to tell you clearly rather than announce a button that does not exist. Processing time: 30 days at most.
For any request: donnees@yadiyar-afrik.com. We may ask you to confirm your identity — it is a protection against someone asking for your account to be deleted in your place.
11. How it is protected
- Encrypted communications between your phone and our servers.
- Passwords that cannot be read, even by us.
- Internal access limited and logged: we know who looked at what.
- Detailed permissions: you choose exactly what each staff member can see and do.
If a data leak were to happen and put you at risk, we will warn you and would inform the competent authority.
Keep your password to yourself, and give your staff only the access they need. Most incidents come from shared access, not from an attack.
12. Minors
The service is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect the data of a minor. If that happened, write to us and we will delete the account.
13. The legal framework
We process your data in compliance with:
- the African Union Convention on cybersecurity and personal data protection (Malabo Convention);
- the national laws of the countries where we operate;
- the rules applicable to electronic commerce.
We apply the same principles everywhere: collect only what is necessary, say why, keep it only as long as useful, and protect it.
